A Eurocode-compliant design approach was developed for the of thin-walled cold-formed steel sections which combines AISI S100-16-Direct Strength Method (DSM) with provisions EN 1993-1-3. The new transfers cross-sectional resistance determined acc. to DSM based on numerical elastic buckling analyses gross cross-section into global member verification Additional factors were introduced optimize approach, e.g., account effects nonlinear stress distribution in cross-sections subject local and/or distortional buckling. Within framework German research project FOSTA P1328/IGF 19964, an extensive series tests differently shaped, perforated, and unperforated compression bending conducted serve analyze phenomena load-bearing capacity validate approach.
